On a computer what does device mean?

Hello,

I have just connected a flatbed scanner to my laptop and inserted the disc but I keep getting the message that the computer cannot find the driver? I don't know what this means-what else do I need to do? Pls. help. Thanks!

So you inserted the disc the scanner came with and it was not able to find a driver?

Did the instructions tell you to install a program from the disc in order for you to use the scanner?
