Only background shows when I connect it to the TV

I have an old Vostro 1000 Dell Laptop and we are connecting it to the TV but only the background shows. It worked before and I've tried everything. Please help

Go into display, manage multiple displays. (or something like that) and change it to mirror your desktop instead of extend it.
