I am having some issues with both a humming sound and sound only coming out of one speaker when I try and play a record. Both speakers work perfectly when in the system is in tuner mode. This issue started happening about 4 months after the system was set up.

Solution
To determine if the problem is in the turntable or your stereo you want to turn the stereo off.
Exchange the left and right RCA plugs that connect the turntable to the stereo.
Turn it on and try it.
If the same speaker is not working then the problem is in the phone preamp of the stereo.
If the other speaker is not working then the problem is in the turntable. It could be the RCA plugs. Very common for the wire to break where it enters the connector. You can replace both RCA connectors. Most require soldering but there are some that don't.

It could also be bad wiring in the turntable or the phone cartridge itself.
The hum is most likely caused by your phonograph not being grounded. Does it have a ground wire? If so, it needs to be grounded.

Also, being your system works fine in tuner mode...that pretty much eliminates the speakers/speaker wire and amps. Most likely one of your signal output cables on the phono is screwed up.

Keep in mind that these wires can break inside the insulation so you may not see the break.
