I signed up to Sprint online. Says $50 back. $25 first and $25 second
bill. Also says $200 phone for $50 after rebate.

Get an email right after signing up. Says I owe 200-50+16 tax = 66.
Sprint PCS Store charges $66 to my VISA. I'm thinking that's it for
the phone. I mean why else would they send me an itemized statement
and take $66.

Get my first bill for like $244 something. Call customer service
and ask, "Hey what about my phone rebate and $25 cash back on
first bill???"

They answer "The rebate is mail in" I didn't get any mail in forms.
So they agree to credit my account. Next bill. As for the cash back,
they'll be nice and make an exception and fix it. Again, I should see
the rebate on the next bill.

Is this all an error or design???

I'm guessing you meant to say 200-150+16 = 66.

Well that first bill ($66) above sure looks like the cost of your phone,
less the instant rebate applied. As to your second bill (and not talking
about your $25 + $25 plan rebates), this is your plan & options, from now to
your billing cycle, and the next billing cycle. Which plan did you take, and
when does your billing cycle start?

Some rebates are instant, like your phone, and some are mail in rebates. In
this case, it should have been applied to your first bill. You

Sounds like its a coding error, when they first initiated your account.
Double check your bill on next month's bill. By the by, which phone did you
get and does it have the newly introduced PRL of 10024 on it?

Logic 101 and basic human intuition would have you think that is the case.
Here, let me cut/paste from the e-mail Sprint sent me immediately
after signing up online...

Total Equipment Charges:
Equipment Subtotal: $199.99
Equipment Tax: $16.50
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Equipment Total: $216.49
Minus rebate(s): $-150.00
Final Equipment Total after Service Credit(s) and Rebate(s): $66.49

It appears like a done deal. They charge your VISA card for $66.49.

Then they send you a bill for the $199.99 phone + 16.50 tax, minus
the $66.49.

What happened to the $150 rebate? Good question. Customer solutions
says that I should have gotten it with the phone. I did not. Customer
solutions promised to credit my account. After I send the delinquent
$216.49 in. But... it's just a verbal promise over the telephone.
They cannot give me a Sprint rebate center, 8 digit tracking number,
because... the rebate is some sort of internal promotion. Whatever
that means?

That is why I dislike any kind of rebates unless they are absolutely
instantaneous. An internal rebate means that they do the processing of
a rebate in-house, and who knows when that is or how you can get
information on it.

At least through Young America -- a popular place that many mail-in
rebates get sent to for Verizon/T-Mobile/AT&T promotions -- after about
a week or so, you can easily track the status of your rebate and
approximate the time it will be processed and mailed.

Good luck. Sounds like a real mess. Just keep everything documented,
including any paperwork you have or any correspondence you have with a
CS rep.

Why, because a solution is, ostensibly, already in the works?

Maybe you should try actually reading the post to which you're
responding.

"Customer solutions promised to credit my account. After I send the
delinquent $216.49 in."

If that doesn't come pass, maybe. But, as usual, you're jumping the
gun.

You're missing the point. During signup I was offered...

1.) Instant rebate, implied, in the first e-mail.
2.) $50 instant rebate, in first and second bill.
3.) 10000 United miles, 5K after first bill, and 5K 6 months from now

After first bill, regarding these three points, I have the following...

1.) Haggle after no show and cross fingers Sprint promise to fix comes through.
2.) Haggle after no show and cross fingers Sprint promise to fix comes through.
3.) Cross fingers it comes through. Just got my United statement today,
a few days after receiving Sprint bill. Zero miles have been added
as a result of my signing up to Sprint.

Here's what I think is happening. Some genius out there figured out that
it is statistically profitable for a big corporation to drop the ball
on gimmicks and promotions and pay some housewife out in Arkansas $7/hour
or some Hindu who learned to speak with a Southern accent $1/hour to
play customer service monkey. If 1 in 20 customers gives up or misses
the boat on one of these rebates, it's worth $50-200 to the company.
I think there is a recognizable pattern of OOPS! involved with these
kinds of transactions.

I think they're hoping for 18 out of 20.

Why should he pay the whole bill when $150 was to be an instant rebate? He
only owes $66.49 why is this even being considered as delinquent?

I'm not doubting what he was told, but I think there's some
information missing here, and he didn't seem to really question the
amount in arrears. I didn't like the way it was handled, but didn't
seem to dispute it.

I should have said, "but *he* didn't dispute it." Obviously, he
didn't like, either, also.
