I'm getting my girlfriend a laptop for Christmas, she isn't a huge gamer but casually plays games like The Sims 4, Team Fortress 2, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, Don't Starve and Deponia etc. She has also expressed a desire to try WoW or similar MMO.

I want to get her a laptop with a 960m as i feel it is more than adequate for the above titles and will give her some breathing room for future games she may want to try, i have seen this laptop...

and it's one of the best i've seen for the price, but i'm wondering if the i5-4210H + 960m is a good combo and will run the games above and be farely future proof, i want to get something that will last her and be reliable. There is a model with a i7-4720HQ and a bigger SSD for about £90 extra but i'm thinking is an i7 needed? Will the i5 still be fairly future proof for what she wants to do on it?

Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

It's fine. Just swap out the hdd for a 250 to 510gb ssd and you'll be future proof for at least a year or two. It's the HDD that bogs everything down for laptop like these, trust me your OS and games will load within seconds.

It looks like the unit already has a 120 GB SSD. Looks like decent price as well for the specs. Of course you could swap in a bigger/second SSD.

Thanks for the replies, that's why debated the i7 model as it also comes with a bigger SSD but i thought 120gb should be good enough, it will house Windows/programs and a couple of games (she likely won't mass horde lots of games at once) and if she needs more space the 1TB will still be adequate for some games?
