I've moved my Samsung TV to a bookcase mount and now I can't hear it well. I have an Emotiva UPA200 two channel amp, so I want to hook up some spare speakers so I can hear the TV. However, the Emotive has rca inputs and the TV has optical digital out. I bought an optical digital to RCA converter. Hooked it all up and all I get is loud static. I looked at the Emotive manual and it says not to hook it up to optical digital. Opps. How else could it possibly work?

Check the TV audio menu. Change the audio output type, The DAC you got is not compatible with a 5.1 channel output. If the TV doesn't let you change the output then get a DAC that is compatible.
Parts-express.com has one that is.

Thanks for the respose. It is appreciated.

I called Emotiva and they're thinking it is simply a bad converter. It looks exactly like the Partsexpress converter(which means... not much). However, Emotiva also pointed out they do not think the TV will control volume thru the amp. Yet another problem.
