Well, I have it <A HREF="http://members.rogers.com/amd_man/msjavx86.exe" target="_new">here</A>. Don't get the Sun one, it's very buggy. Get this! It's almost impossible to find nowadays. It took me a while to find it myself so I thought I'd do people a favour and make it available to others.

I use Sun's version and have yet to have a problem...........oh well, i dl'd it off u anyways for the future =)

I compiled the Sun version from source...there was a bug or two in the Netscape/Mozilla plugin (mainly the thing wouldn't set JAVA_PLUGIN_AGENT in the environment), but I worked around that with a wrapper script. It also happened to trip on a bug in something else--worked around that too. Aside from those two issues, it seems to do just fine.

Try to run <A HREF="http://www.javagameplay.com/index.html?AlienInvasion.html&2" target="_new">this game</A> with the Sun version. It doesn't run.

It seems to work OK if I just follow the normal link path from the master site. Clicking on the link in Konqueror didn't do well, for some reason--maybe the different url (between your link and my working game) has something to do with that. Or maybe it's that Mozilla and Konqueror access the Java engine through different methods.

Sun's Java sucks on this site.

Once again, no problems with Yahoo!Games. Am I the only one who can get this java engine working well? I doubt it.

Ah well, I'm in no mood to argue over a java engine. Maybe it just runs better on Linux than it does in Windows.

You running sun Java?

Play "literate" I know the chat text and player names are so small they are unreadable.

It is hard to make out if the game is rated or untimed.

Once you are playing everything is ok

i think its cuz ur running on Linux......that or Sun Java is noy P4 Optimized :wink:

Chat text and player names seem OK. The options text is disgustingly tiny though...reminds me of Netscape 4. Is that what you're talking about?

I'm running Sun j2sdk 1.4.0, with minor patches for gcc-3.x compatibility, library name resolution, and a wrapper script to hack around a couple of issues. First issue seems to be with ld.so run-time linker and the ld.so.cache format. Second issue (the JAVA_PLUGIN_AGENT environment variable) could be Mozilla, or it could be the java plugin included with j2sdk.

Thanks AMD_Man... I forgive you now for getting the accolades that I should have gotten for posting the P4 vs. P4B vs. P4B+PC1066 chart from Anandtech.

Now, I'm downloading this right now (damn its slow... 2.04 KB/s over my cable... not used to this). I'm thinking it'll work for WinXP, but you wanna clarify this? Damn MS for pulling the JVM on July 10th, and not offering at least a place to download it somewhere. Guess, though, that it will be included in the XP SP1, so I could get the beta (or is release candidate now?), but I always was leary of MS beta stuff. Since I wiped my system towards the end of July when I installed a new MB, I lost it, and I wasn't really fond of the Sun Java client. Sigh, leave it to two big companies to hate each other so much to tell the customers to bend over and grab their collective ankles. I do find it sad that Sun can't even iron out the bugs in their own code.

This thread is about MS VJM, it displays properly on everything so far.

I have used the SUN VJM but it sucks for Windows platform specificly.

That is just one example, The SUN VJM would crash/close arbuptly, lose connection to server, and many other non critical problems.

Ah well, seeing as this thread is OT to begin with, I reserve the right to make brazenly off-topic posts about Sun Java, or even about things not even related to java engines.

The prupose of this tread was to make MS VJM easier to find for those looking for it now.

Without the exact file name it is almost impossible to find, and the SUN VJM for Windows sucks.

Thanks AMD_MAN, this info was needed for the masses.

Been using Sun's JVM for the past 4 years, no problems at all.
I use Linux mainly, with version 1.4.0...but even in Windoze, Sun's works flawlessly for me.

Ja, Sun doesn't seem all that bad so far. I've had the initial setup issues, and so far encountered one instance (Literati) where some of the text is ugly (is this the java applet, or is it JVM? who knows), but no real problems.

Just to chime in, I too had issues with uproar and yahoogames with suns java and had to find the ms vm to play all the games out there.

I have had no issues with microsofts java as of yet.

Hi. First of all thanks for making this M$ JVM available to all of us!!

But then.. how did you get this thing to install?! I'm running Win2K with SP3 and when I try to install it, after I agree to the EULA I get the message :"The Microsoft virtual machine you are attempting to install is a protected system component and can be only updated by a later release of the operating system or service pack".

Pls enlighten me !!
