do you know of a good program to password protect the flash drive that works on both 32 and 64 bt m to switch thumb drives on different windows laptops ?
and what option s best to choose to format the USB - efat, or ntfs as those are two options given on one have- or best not to format when password protect>?

You can buy encrypted drives with this function built in, we use Kingston DataTraveler ones

You can also use the built in bitlocker to encrypt it if you are running a supported Win 10 version that has it.

Format type depends on size and which OS you'll use it with.
NTFS is generally the safest choice.

thank you- actually was hoping to switch between windows , xp, and maybe vista to save docs mostly,
avoiding windows 10.
read 11 may be less intrusive

There is a model of USB memory stick that has physical buttons on it so you can enter a pin number to enable it. Claims to be platform independant so should work on a phone.
