My Win7 pc died so I bought an identical make and model and moved the HDD from the old to the new. MS Office 2010 wants some kind of activation. It came installed on the old computer from the vendor. Obviously, I can't deactivate it, nor do I have the product code. Any ideas?
I know it can't be transferred between two computers, but this is a special case where the HDD moved.
To programs, the computer is the motherboard, and the motherboard serial number. Even if you have the same drive but moved it to another computer, it's a new computer. However in cases like yours where you are working on a recovery not just a new system, I have never had issues with re-activating a product.
