PC Headphones only plays though one ear

Can you please help me? My headphones only play though my right ear but the weird thing is when i put the left side wire up close to my left ear it works but not for long. I tried everything in the computer but it still doesn't work. The headphones I'm using is the Sony - ZX Series On-Ear Headphones - Black. Please help.

It sounds like the wire for the left driver (speaker) is damaged. You will need to have the cord replaced.
