PC to AV receiver?

I want to connect my PC to my AV receiver/TV. I bought an HDMI sound card, and I can get video from PC if i connect the HMDI cord from PC direct to TV, but not sure how to do it through the receiver. For my PC speakers (not connected to receiver) they are connected by the green 3.5mm jack. I want to have my TV as like a 2nd monitor when needed with audio AND video. I think I could probably connect direct to TV and run the audio separate, but since HDMI carries both audio and video there has to be a way to do it that way. I tried connecting the receiver and pc via HDMI but i couldnt get audio or video to play.I have a denon s500bt.

Have you tried selecting HDMI as your output in control panel? There should be an option to select HDMI as your audio output under your sound settings in control panel.
