Question PC to old-school stereo receiver producing LOTS of static.

I have a laptop and an AUX RCA Cable 15. ft, 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA Audio Auxiliary Adapter Stereo Splitter Cable connecting to the "phono" jack on an old-school Sony Stereo Receiver.

I play YouTube music videos on the laptop, and I want the audio to go through the receiver, but I'm getting a LOT of static.

Could it be a grounding issue? And if so, how do I ground the receiver? I know very little about these things.
Any other ideas? Thanks!
