PCoIP from laptop to monitor?

I just got a Samsung SyncMaster NC240 and I'm trying to connect it to a Acer es1.11 so that I can watch Netflix on a bigger screen. I'm Lost! The monitor has Ethernet and VGA in, and the netbook has Ethernet and HDMI out. How can I connect the two together? Ideally for dual screens, but just one bigger screen would suffice. internet search said I could connect via Ethernet cable, but I can't figure it out. also said that some computers can use a passive HDMI to VGA adapter if it's got active VGA something. Anyone know if this is one of them so I don't waste money on one if not needed?
