Pentium 4 vs pentium b940

Morning. I am in the process of shopping for a laptop. I presently have a desktop computer with Intel Pentium 4CPU 2.80GHz. One of the laptops I am considering has an Intel Pentium B940 (2.0GH2). Another laptop I am considering has an Intel Core 13-2310M. How much faster are the two that I am considering than the processor I already have in my desktop?

Is that Pentium 4 2.8Ghz CPU a model 520 or 518?

If so it ranks about #415/416 on the Big List of Mobile CPU benchmarks.

For comparison the the Pentium B940 ranks #132 and i3-2310M ranks #78.
Both are a big improvement relative to a Pentium 4 520.

The Pentium B940 is roughly a 300% improvement over the Pentium 4 520 running a SuperPI 1M calculation.

There are some desktop CPUs for comparison in the Big List of Mobile CPU benchmarks;
A desktop Pentium 4 P4 3.0Ghz is ranked #411 and a Pentium 4 630 3.0Ghz ranks #384
And a Core 2 Duo (Desktop) E6700 2.66Ghz ranks #88.

Hi and thank you for your quick response. I don't know what model my Pentium is. I am not really computer literate and I got into the bowels of my desktop so I would have something to compare. I was debating whether to buy a B940 or an i3 and obviously I should get the i3. I don't buy computers much and I want it to last me at least 4 years or more. Thank you so much for the info. 😉
