Athreex, you are correct. Vegetarians get protein from plant sources--soy, seeds & nuts, wheat, rice, etc. Some do eat eggs and dairy (those are not vegans, however) as well.
Some of you are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Cutting off your noses to spite your faces. Bah, I don't have any others. In any case, whether you like PETA (BTW, people are animals too) or not, that doesn't change the fact that too much of certain types of foods is known-even to you--to be harmful to your heart health, which can lead to heart disease and stroke, as well as the dreaded E.D.
Some of you would rather get defensive about your chosen diet (why are you so defensive about something you think is fine for your health? You shouldn't be so easily shaken, fer cryin' out loud) and dump all over PETA, Alicia Silverstone and vegetarians in general.
Just something to think about: all the contestants they've ever had on The Biggest Loser--think they got there by eating a healthy diet, vegetarian or otherwise? Not a chance. But go ahead and eat your bacon wrapped bacon burger and down your bacon shake with your fries made in bacon grease just to show PETA who's boss. Maybe you'll get your 15 minutes of fame with Bob & Jillian screaming in your face one day.
I have *never* pushed my diet on anyone (btw, the guy who said all the vegetarians he's seen are sickly or pale or whatever it was--that tired myth gets trotted out every time this subject comes up--it's a lie and you know it. You wouldn't know a vegetarian if you were staring one in the face.
I *have* however gotten plenty of attitude from people about what I choose to eat, when I'm not even asking them to eat it. I had a waitress once give me a snarky "miss no-meat" when she brought my meal because I had the nerve to ask what was in the marinara sauce. That was all I did.
I've had my own father give me years of grief and rude remarks because he doesn't approve of what I eat for some reason. And yes, he eats plenty of meat and has tried to get me to switch back, while I've never tried to get him to change to my kind of food. Go figure.
Where I live and where I used to live there are NO ads for meat substitutes or vegetarian products, yet there are TONS of ads for burgers, sausage, chicken, pork, fish, etc. Who's fooling who here? It's the meat industry that's pushing hardest to get people to eat their product, not the other way around. But continue to live in that bubble where you tell yourself all vegetarians are trying to convert you. You end up sounding like homophobes who are convinced all gay people want to get in their pants.
