PLEASE HELP.Setting up surround sound with old receiver and new tv.

I have a new tv that I am trying to hook up to my receiver with speakers. I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff and my receiver is old (it lacks the optical and hdmi sockets). Can anyone help ? my tv model is H502 series 5 and my receiver is str-av720.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Ditto for your receiver - seems to be Sony.

My tv is a Samsung and yes, the receiver is sony

I think you're SOL.
From what I can see of Specs, it has no audio outputs you can use with that receiver.

It does have an auxiliary output if that makes a difference

If it has an Aux Out, then you likely can use that.
Looks like maybe I didn't bring up the right model for your Samsung (you sure of the model number?).
Most Aux Out's are for audio (to a headset or receiver) and use a 3.5 mm male stereo jack.
You can buy cables that have that on one end, and the red/wite male RCA jacks on the other that you can put to the CD In on your Sony receiver. Try it.
