[citation][nom]maltocro[/nom]Technology is a good hideout for folks who dont belive in things their few of our sences can not feel. It is plain irrational to think there are no higher beeings in this wast 13 billion years old universe we have. Just imagine, our Earth is 4,5 billion old, what a head start it must be if there is a just one civilisation 1 billion years older then ours. They would be practically godlike to us. And imagine if they have their own god there. So we can for them be practically not much more than little ants who think we are very smart in our grandour.[/citation]

you are mostly right but you are confusing god-like and god. It is a bit arrogant for us to think that there is no other intelligent life in the Universe. It might as well appear as god-like to us. Still this doesn't mean that a god or gods created either the Universe or life on Earth.

Western Civilization thinks that it can reach God with technology or explain God using Science....Beep wrong. There was other older Civilization who had same ideas namely old Greeks whose Philosophy was accepted later by Western Civilization. People who believe in God do not need to abolish Science. Nothing wrong with Science and it has nothing to do with God. However; Science stated some of the most stupidest things for the past couple hundred years.

Stupid things Science stated

Evolution
Theory of Relativity
Bing Bang
General Theory of Cosmos

When you read it all, it is one stupid statement after another stupid statement. And of course people blindly believe what Science lie to them cause they will take anything for granted cause pretty much they have no brain as they don't use brain when they stare at their little stupid device called iPhone.

Man didn't came from Monkey nor some Mammal came from fish out of sea. Those scientists tell you that Bible is like and yet they try to convince to believe in absolute utter crap.

Funny thing is that Bible tells us about a time when people wont believe, and idiots above will be all over this Planet.

you are joking right? If not please explain everything you see around you using your bible. Actually please don't. We know "GOD MADE IT LIKE THIS". As for the Greeks, if you read all of them you'll find out that some philosophers were atheists! Not bad for people that lived more than 2000 years ago.

I truly pity you and hope at the same time you have no influence on other people especially young children.

I find it rather funny that atheist have such a huge problem with the existence of God.I faced this very belief system harshly during my undergraduate(philosophy) years. I couldn't understand the point of existence to people who deny God, some will say for the betterment of mankind, other will say for namesake, and other still science? I don't believe one single human being is that selfless.

My question is that by some chance Christianity happens to be correct what will you say to God when you see him?
How will you explain yourself?
And if your sentenced to spend eternity in hell what can you do?

As a scientist I sometimes find it hard trust me but those are the questions I ask myself hope this helps.

Bible is not there to explain to you how things work or why magnetic field is the way is. Bible tells you about life, God, how we came and where are we going and what we seek.

No wonder why are they so many unhappy people in this World. What people ultimately do even those who do not believe in God is that they search for God and Happiness but they don't find it in their stupid iPhone, new card, brand new house, and all these other unimportant things in life. It is quite irony it seems that Atheist talk about God more than people who believe in God. Why is that so?

"This is beyond comment territory. I truly hope you have no social life, you influence no one and that you have or will never ever have children. "

It's interesting how especially liberals and some soft atheists can't intelligently reply to or ignore a topic they can't answer. Rather, they resort to insults. Evidence of de-evolution in certain individuals if you ask me.

Bertrand Russell answered those questions quite eloquently...

"I'm sorry, but you never gave me enough proof."

I hope this is the last article I will ever see on a tech site. Stuff like this does not belong on tom's hardware. One thing I learned about articles like these, is the fact its a never ending debate. But I take that as a good thing because this just shows that science and evolution is no joke. The fact is this is a huge debate, proves that science is not a sitting duck. Science has always been about theories and relativity.

Religion takes the fun out of everything (no offense to those into religion) just believe and don't think anything else. While Science goes great lengths to provide information whether it is a fact or FALSE. Nothing is concrete until proven. That how science has, and always will be. The fact that mankind finally was able to leave this planet just shows what we have accomplished thus far thanks to science.

And as for technology? This just shows of how we have progressed, and that we are more capable to go even further. At the rate we are going I could not imagine what this world will be like 10 years from now. I am hearing stuff like "antimatter" Superconductors" Super A.I computers known as Watson. So to say "technology can't replace god" is moot topic because where did the raw materials come from such as Silicon and other metals? If it wasn't for these metals we would not be using any kind of electronic device to be debating. Also Science is not just finding evidence to prove a theory, but also discover things like Lightning is electricity thanks to Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Edison to make practical use out of it by inventing the first light bulb.

Not saying that I don't believe in god but I am having trouble grasping when people say "god is real you must have faith" so where did this come from?

It begs to ask, how would this world be like today If it wasn't for these 2 brilliant geniuses??

Sometimes things you read or hear are beyond the discussion level. Like it or not this is a fact. Some things are plain stupid. Re-iterating science, logic, evidence and the results of great minds again and again becomes extremely tiresome and pointless. For some there is simply no hope. What I truly hope though is that people with obsolete and dangerous ideas have no influence on others. Is that much to ask? They can believe to what they want as long as their mythology doesn't infect others.

I say: God might exist, I don't know, but if I have to bet, and something collectible while conscious, I would say "it probably does not exist", or "we are emulated on some super high mixture of artificial and biological intelligence". The way you put it, though, is: "believe and fear God, else you might spend eternity in hell, maybe as punishment for not believing". I truly don't think the supreme being is like that, or could ever be like that. So, I would rather be true to my self, and if that God deserves the worship requested, he/she/they will understand, including me doubting his/her/their existence or trying to see the "what if" that bible forbids us to.

Geez guys, it seems like geek status and atheism go hand and hand.

I don't know about most of you all, but I DO believe in God. I just think about these systems of complex machinery called computers we use everyday and know there was a designer, then I read Grey's anatomy or use Google Body and look at the complexities of the human body and know, there was a designer.

[citation][nom]blubbey[/nom]What he's really saying is there's no technology that will make him able to control billions of people willingly. Religion and 'God' is just something to control the behaviour and habits of people without them knowing it.[/citation]

You are comparing different things. The processes that are required to develop a computer system and the processes (evolution) that are required to develop simple life forms and then (in billions of years) highly complex life forms are completely different. If complex life forms, say dogs, suddenly appeared out of nowhere without any predecessors then you would have a point to argue. However, this is not the case with life as we know it. First of all It took billions of years to get started and then it took billions of years to get into the complex forms and species that we see today around us. Failure to understand the history of the Earth and the processes that took place to give rise to life, failure to understand how evolution works with its gradual changes over millions and millions of years, failure to understand anatomy and biology can easily lead to the conclusion that we along the other animals have been designed rather than evolved.

Have a look at some interesting points regarding bad "design" in mammals: recurrent laryngeal nerve, the design of the mammalian eye where the retina is actually inside out, etc. Have a look also at mitochondria and chloroplasts that used to be independent organisms that became over long processes embedded in more complex structures.
