Popping Sound coming from Computer Speakers

When I start my computer a constant popping sound is coming from my speakers or headphones if they are plugged in. The popping sound remains constant even I am playing music or mute sound through Window's playback control. Not sure if it's a sound card problem or something else. Any help would be great!

Running Windows XP and Soundblaster Live! 24bit

I understand the problem, see if their is an updates for the sound card. If it's not that then they speakers must be going out. Sorry if I am had scare you with that last sentence. Question for you would be if you have surround sound speakers or just normal desktop speakers?
