Hi all,

I just purchased a used laptop that is actually in great shape, but the seller said that it freezes intermittently. There are a few things I am going to try, such as checking the RAM with MemTest86+, but is there anything else I could check? It could be a bad Windows install, but the laptop is currently running Ubuntu which makes me think it is probably hardware related (the seller didn't specify if it is a Windows only issue).

I believe that the laptop was released last summer, so it may still be under manufacturer warranty and so I can always send it in. I guess it will be hard to tell until it is actually in my hands, but if anyone could give suggestions, that would be great.

freeze could related to heat throttling (cpu/gpu/mem), memory error, or HDD that runs to slow..

One thing i would check is the health of the hard disk.....

Warranties do not universally transfer to new owners so I would check before considering that option. I know for a fact that Lenovo does not allow warranty transfer. However, Dell does all warranty transfers.

Interesting to know, I was able to get an Alienware (Dell) transferred for a client, so I never thought about companies having differing policies.
