Power surge possible?

I plugged my laptop into the power strip that was not on so I turned the power strip on and now my laptop won't turn on . Did I fry it?can it be fixed?

My battery was low so I plugged in the power cord but the power strip wasn't on so I turned it on and I think I tried my laptop because it won't turn on at all . Does anyone know of this ?is it gone?
