1. What is your budget?
<$2000 Canadian

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15" (approx)

3. What screen resolution do you want?
1440 x 900 or better. I care more about the gamut and quality of the screen than the number of pixels.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

Worst of all, I need a portable desktop replacement :) I travel alot so I have to haul this puppy everywhere.

5. How much battery life do you need?

I currently get 1:15 hrs, I'm shooting for 3hrs when used for Web browsing, writing.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

No games

Massive amounts of photo editing, some software development work.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

500 GB, 7200 RPM is the minimum. Ideally a manufacturer would have picked up Seagate's new hybrid drive already.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

2-3 yrs

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

doesn't matter

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

Something boring and reliable that runs Windows :)

13. What country do you live in?

Canada

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

Struggling to decide between i7 - more power and less battery life and i5 - better battery life.

"Desktop Replacement" and 3 hour battery life are mutally exclusive. Ya want that much power, ya got 3 choices .... desktop replacement and short bettery life ...... decreased power and long battery life or desktop replacement and lugging around a car battery.

I'd either grab the best Asus I could afford, or find a Clevo distributor to build one for you:

Jack - thanks for the feedback. At this stage I'm willing to trade a bit of performance for some battery life. I was considering settling for a core i5. The better ones appear about 60% faster than my existing core 2 Duo T8300.
