Hi

If you boot up PC from bootable CD, DVD or usb memory stick with either Windows PE or Linux distribution you should be able to recover any important data, see what partitions exist, what their size is what disk Volume label is (if any) and if you have one or two Windows installations.

You should be able to work out the Windows 7 & Windows 8 drive is
c:\windows\explorer.exe W7 dated 2011
c:\windows\explorer.exe W8.1 dated 2013
c:\windows\explorer.exe W8 dated 2012 (not sure)

Back up important data before proceeding further as if things go wrong you may not get another chance
Booting from an emergency recovery disk or Windows 7 or 8 DVD should enable repair of Windows 7 or 8 boot manager

This assumes you have access to a Windows 7 or 8 (64bit) PC which is working or your Win 7 or 8 DVD

Parted Pagic is a usefull linux distribution (old versions are free but this years versions cost about US $ 5)
Make PE3 by Wim2 is a usefull pre installation environment based on Win 7 or 7 SP1
older PE1 pre installation environment based on XP have problems with lack of drivers for recent hardware
(eg Bart PE or ubcd4win)
