Don't you guys know that violent games are excellent ways to release all your pent up anger and anxiety without doing much harm on society? That's why the inmates there have to attend computer classes on how to play the video games. Just love the UK.

...and one of the main reasons they need to charge their illegal phones is so that they can continue to direct serious organised crimes from within their jail cells. Time to install phone jammers perhaps?

So the governor of the prison can't even keep locked-down prisoners from obtaining and using cellphones right under his nose? If I was that guy I'd be too embarrassed to hold my head up in public. If I was in charge of that guy I would have fired him already.

In some prisons, they allow TV or consoles for those prisoners who maybe in their for LIFE. It helps keep them in control. When the prisoner is bad - just like a kid, they'll take away the toys.
They are locked up 24/7. They can't eat or do much of anything they want other than interact with other prisoners. Those PS3s are NOT free. They are purchased by the family of the prisoners. They are also non-standard (at least in the USA) with clear bodies so the guards can tell if anything is hidden inside.
A friend of mine went to prison for a drug charge (She shouldn't have dated a drug dealer), she had about 2 months of freedom when she found out and she had to turn herself in. 6 months, no problem... then she found out there was an error and it was really for 12 months!
Things I learned from her, visiting at least 1-2 times a month. Even when they transfered her 100 miles away.
- Food is fine
- lots of Lesbian stuff going on.
- Don't do Lesbian stuff (She's bi, but didn't tell anyone... because what causes fights in prison is jealousy, relationships, etc - we've both shared boobs before in the outside world eheheh)
- Some people in prison BELONG in Prison.
- prisoners are VERY horny. I joked about "oops, you guys almost locked me up in here", the guard and my friend said "You would be raped" by the women.
- Gay prisoners are not in the same area as regular prisoners. (Yes, non-gay males may do M-M sex, but not because they're gay - its different) Why? Gay prisoners would rape the others.
- Mean Female Prisoners are dangerous, they would sexually assault another woman with objects in very bad ways. My friend is cute and friendly... and did pretty good, kept her nose clean there.
- If you are a prisoner, every time you get a visitor, they strip you down before and after the visit to do a cavity search. She said, for visits from people on the outside - its worth it.
- Brings lots and lots of quarters for visits.
- Guards in Prison know the good people (prisoners and visitors) from the bad. So be cool and they are cool. Its just a job.
- Don't go to prison. It doesn't look like fun or cool. Its cold, its bright, its noisy and yes... getting caught masturbating can result in 1-2 months added to your sentence.

It's a well known fact the UK prison system is broken, it's a holiday camp, you ask anyone who's been inside they'll tell you the same! I've heard by someone who robs warehouses regularly that it's worth doing for the short sentences he gets and prison isn't exactly hard, he has three houses which he rents, and lives for free whilst inside, and can order anything he likes out the Argos catalogue whilst there.
It's all well and good to say it keeps them from getting bored, violent, etc but seriously, expensive luxury items? Myself and my partner on low incomes have to scrimp and save each month, sometimes it's tight especially during winter with increased gas bills, we had to save up for four months to get a PS3 and it wasn't new, it was a broken one from eBay and we brought a replacement laser and repaired it our selves, we spent £110 in total. We had to work and save our arses off to get a luxury item which I think we deserved.
But people who commit crimes can live a better life than we do, how is that fair? Should people that commit crimes be punished rather than have i good? There's other ways to keep them bored, books for starters, maybe they'll learn something then instead of spending their time gaming.
It makes me seriously consider taking up crime!!!

The prisons have their own stores that criminals use money they earned by Making Dentures, License plates, fancy wood boats, etc. Nothing comes free, even to prisoners who get paid 40 cents a day I believe. A friend of mine just got out of 4 years in prison. (gun and oxyconton charges) In his prison people must work much much longer to buy anything and then you often dont get to take it with you when you are released. He made a little over a dollar a day and the items in the store are expensive. Also the TV's suck and are TV's from the 50's with a clear plastic housing so you can't hide things inside. It's no Hilton hotel in other words.

Oh ok...its not in america...because they would never let them have that kinda stuff here in america..they treat inmates like trash here...Sad really...I mean those people put themselves there and its thier own fualt...but no ones trash...people act like trash..and do trashy things..but no ones trash..just a lost soul.

Are you kidding me? They have flat screen TV's and PS3's in prison? WTF what kind of prison or punishment is that? I bust my balls and pay taxes and obey the law and I wasn't given a free PS3 or flat screen nor can I order my meals from flat screen terminals.

So, they are in a cell all day playing video games, can easily smuggle cell phones in, get room service (they order by computer right?). Doesn't sound like "prison" to me. Apparently the UK Prison System is pretty lax, or at least this particular prison is.
