I bought a new laptop recently about a month ago, and it was working amazingly until I started playing games. Every time I'd play a game while the laptop was plugged in, the screen would start to turn into these messed cubes of different colors, and the game would crash or my laptop would restart.

The laptop is an HP, with a 1080 NVIDIA GTX Graphic Card, i7 CPU, and 8 GB of RAM.

I tried optimizing my settings, and I tried lowering the graphics of the game to no avail. A friend told me there might be a problem with the fan possibly. What do you guys think?

I think your GPU is overheating causing artifacts on the screen.

Try cleanign the fan inlet with a small brush and check the exhaust port is clean too.

Try gaming with it on a flat surface to ensure the fan can pull in enough cold air and push it through.

You cant game with these on a surface where the fan or port is obstructed ... like a pillow or on a bed ... it will overheat.

I'm guessing I'd have to open the laptop to clean it up, correct?

I always game on my flat desk, so it can't be that.

I also notice that if i disable McAfee, it works noticeably better

You can clean the fan without opening it ... with a small brush and some compressed air in a can.

If it continues to overheat take it to a shop to have the GPU heatsink paste replaced.

Do not pull down a lappy without significant confidence and experience ... there will be tears ... and pain.

Plus ... THIS IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY !!

Take it back to the dealer on RMA.

The thing is, i didn't get it with the warranty because I was planning on travelling. Regardless, I'm going to take it to the technician to check it out. The strange thing is that regardless, the bottom of the laptop is not hot at all...
