is it completely dead or has the light just blown and the picture is dark?

Being a dv9000 it would not surprise me if the nvidia gpu is dead due to the common manufacturing fault that plagued 1000's of laptops from the 6 and 9000 series.

If that is the case you need a new laptop basically.

Thanks

In fact, the laptop sbut did not display anything, and by the way when you connect another screenhown is degraded with very low resolution like 600x400, comparing to high resolution.

Hello,

My friend's laptop had no display and fractured display on external
monitor. I replaced mobo and copper shimmed the graphic chip.
That fixed the major display problem. Cost less than $120.
I found a new motherboard from China for $105 & freight. copper shims,
heat sink paste and such the rest.
Took some patience and care but not a hard fix if you're mechanical.
If I had to charge for labor it wouldn't be worth it. I'm doing it for a 50th anniversary gift.
However, now a different display problem arose.
Now on cold start, internal display is black. I found by 3-finger salute
(Ctrl-Alt-Del) immediately following on-switch the display lights up
but usually only after numerous trys.
Hours of experimenting
revealed that by closing the lid immediately after pressing the on
switch, the display is lit when I reopen it. This seems to work
every time and I can now live with that but I am not so sure my
friend will.
Hope this tip helps you some but I am still seeking a fix for this minor issue.
Sooner or later, I'll figure it out. When I do, I'll post it
