Problem with the projector screen display when hook up laptop to projector using HDMI

There's no problem with the way the projector screen display my presentation when I hook up my laptop to projector using VGA. The presentation got to fill up the entire projector screen. No space on both side and no space on the top and the bottom of the projector screen between my presentation and the edge of the screen. But when I hook up my laptop to the projector using HDMI or even with HDMI/VGA converter, then my presentation does not fill up the entire projector screen. I have tried to change display resolution of my laptop but to no avail. The projector only has VGA connection. So when I use the laptop has VGA port then there's NO PROBLEM. But when the laptop has HDMI which I have to use the VGA / HDMI converter then that is when I have the problem as I have described above regarding y presentation got shrinking and has the space both side, the top and the bottom. Hope this clear up my question. Thank you.

I use PowerPoint to do presentation. When I hook up my laptop to the projector using VGA, the projector screen got fill up, NO problem. But when I either hook up thru HDMI or even thru using VGA converter, all of the sudden, my presentation got shrinks. The projector screen has the space on both side and the top and the bottom. I cannot get presentation to fill out the entire projector screen like when I hook up using VGA. I have try to change my laptop resolution but to no avail. What do I need to do?
