problems with 7.1 sound configuration disappearing

i have a sony 7.1 surround system that ive linked my computer to via hdmi. the problem im having is when going on playback devices, and clicking on "sony avamp4" to configure speakers ( its only showing stereo, where as it previously showed 5.1 6.1 and 7.1. to say this problem is driving me insane is an understatement. my graphics card is a Gigabyte geforce gtx 970, motherboard is asrock x99 extreme 3. i would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, as i recently spent £1300 on this now piece of shi1 computer.

Easiest answer, though it will not tell you what broke, is to try system restore to when it 'did' work. If this is no good, you need to uninstall the sound card drivers completely. After this restart into plain 'safe mode', and open device manager, at the top click view, then show hidden devices. Delete anything in the list (except non plug and play drivers) that is half invisible. Also if you know the folder where the sound card software is installed, make sure when you uninstalled it there are no 'leftovers'. Restart windows, reinstall your sound card drivers.

Chances are this is a driver/software glitch, and hopefully this will work for you.

cheers for the reply, it started working randomly the day after i posted, displaying all the surround options as well as stereo...up until today and now its done it again, just showing stereo....so i will give this a try. i appreciate the help, thanks
