If your gaming I wouldn't consider it a HTPC, just a regular PC in a small form factor case. Are you going to have a dedicated GPU? If not then I would look into the AMD APUs, they should give you better gaming performance over intel's HDXXXX. If you go this route though get the fastest RAM you can because the APUs really benefit from it.

Otherwise intel is generally the better choice, but depending on the GPU you are getting you may not encounter a bottleneck from a cheaper AMD CPU.
