to increase performance you can either have the processor execute instructions in less time or make each insruction it executes do more work.explain?

Solution
Analogy.
If I am your boss and I tell you to create a MS PP presentation to finalize the deal with a customer by tomorrow.
AND
1) If you do the presentation by mid day and finalize the deal by today evening = your performance increased due to speed.
2) If you do exactly as I said and also managed to get the deal's money transferred by tomorrow = your performance increased due to more work.

In a CPU, these two correspond to faster clock speed and adding more cores.

What's there to explain, that sentence explains itself. If you carry 10 lbs of sand 10 feet in 5 seconds you'll do as much work as someone that carries 20lbs of sand 10 feet in 10 seconds. If you can't use that logic to answer the question yourself, you will not make a very good computer tech or programmer.
