I know this is an old post. An I3-370M is a first generation I3. An I5 2430M is a second generation (Sandy Bridge) . It usually will not work. Your probably going to have to stay with 1st generation CPU. Also for the record, I will say from personal expierence going from an I3 to an I5 sometimes will not work. The bios has to suppor an I5 processor. The main difference between the two, although they usually have the same socket, the I5 has hyperboost and the I3 does not. So the BIOS has to support an I5. Here is a link to the CPU's that your laptop should support. But you may have to update the BIOS Good Luck https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02057767
