Why is this comparison even being made ?

I mean, after the first few paragraphs everybody, including the author, agrees the CPU is not possible to be comparable to the Xbox360. All that is left is the RAM.

But then again, the PS3 ALSO has ONLY 515MB total memory. Let me guess, Sony is trying not to devalue the PS3's ridiculous RAM amount, and instead deviates attention to... the Xbox360's equally ridiculous RAM amount. LOLOLOL

Let's see.. current Netbooks have more RAM than either.. so there you go. Not as exciting, but factually correct. heheheh

[citation][nom]mstang1988[/nom]I would be curious to know how the 360 proc stacks up to the Athlon 2/intel chips.[...] index.html[/citation]
Desktop CPU's run x86 code. The Xenos cpu has a much smaller instruction set as its required to perform a much smaller set of tasks. It would be difficult to get an apples to apples comparison, but the I7 980XE performs at 107 gflops on x86, xbox 90gflops on risc x64.

It's $ony you could have a hemi in that thing only to be limit by valve displacement. Don't expect a miracle, And don't expect it to keep any great feature ( piracy concerns)

the xbox 1 has a 733 Mhz Processor and 64 MB Ram. Maybe they were talking about that and got confused? and traditionally the psp only had 32MB ram. I don't think games are allowed to use the other 32 for same of backwards compatibility.

[citation][nom]JOSHSKORN[/nom]1 GB of RAM? Games fitting on 900 MB or 1.8GB storage units? Something doesn't add up. Either the games need larger capacity storage units or the 1 GB of RAM might be useless.[/citation]

ummmmm..... he said RAM not ROM. storage ranges from 8gb to whatever via micro sd

Remember though, Sony DID launch a handheld about 5 years after the PS2, and it had comparable horsepower.

The fact they might have a handheld to match, or even beat the 360 after the 5 years it has been released sounds totally feasable. Practical? Maybe not. But we'll see.

[citation][nom]adamboy64[/nom]It's really not hard for a handheld today to beat the specs of a 5+ year old system.. no real surprises here at all.[/citation]

Yes. Whether it's more powerful or not is probably not the important question. It's going to need a lot more than just insane power to be a successful handheld. Specifics on Backwards Compatibility, Battery Life, Connectivity and others come to mind.

Why are you all talking about power? It clearly says Horses. How Sony is gonna cram horses into something so small, remains to be seen.

While I wouldn't say its impossible to make a handheld that could exceed the 360 specs I certainly don't think we will be seeing such within the next generation of handhelds.
In fact this is nothing more than a silly rumor and there is no reason to take it seriously.
Why is such rumors and speculation even making it to be news here?

Can anyopne at Tom's tell me why you have a picture of the PSP Phone with a story about the psp2? C'mon, you guys have been ripping off engadget new for ages and this time you don't you get it wrong. Well done !

So the PSP2's gonna become become a home console since you'll need to plug if for power? xD Anyway.. What's the best Cellphone/mobile GPU anyway?

Perhaps they put 360 there by mistake and they wanted to say it's faster than the original xbox. If they didn't made this mistake then this surely is a lie. Then isn't a single smartphone cpu than can get close to the one on the xbox360.

sony also said prior to the ps2 's release that it would kill pc gaming , Prior to ps3's reelase they said the ps 3 wont compete with comnputers and it is a c pure consoel , yet it came out of the box packign far more pc like qualities than even rival xbox 360 had. then sony changed stories and was again sayign teh ps 3 would kil pc gaming.

i'll beleive this thing is that powerful when pigs fly, and real martians land on the white hosue lawn.

Yes, that's nice and all but what kind of GPU specs are we talking about? I'll be damned if this thing is stronger than a 360. In that case it would come with a battery you put on your back, or around your belt, because right now, it's just hard to imagine something so small dishing out that much.
