Hi all,

I have a small amount of experience with computers/laptops (Just enough to make sure I don't get ripped off in store by some guy trying to sell me a surface pro or an Apple).

I'm purchasing a new laptop which I want to use for work and gaming (I know it's a laptop over a desktop, but currently don't have the space for a desktop and would much prefer a laptop.)

I've be very grateful if you could rate these laptops for me!

Cheers for the help.

These were my initial thoughts.
I've found a couple of alternatives

-

HP Pavilion 15.6" Intel i7 8GB 1TB & 128GB SSD Gaming Laptop
CPU:Intel Core i7 intel® core™ i7-6700hq quad core processor.
8GB RAM
1TB HD + 128GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForcenvidia® geforce® gtx 960m graphics card.
2.6GHz processor speed.

Decreased processor speed in comparison to the other laptops.

Greetings, Wolfman:
Considering the efforts expended by you and AppleGwava it would be bad manners not to respond, so here goes:

1. Medion Erazer x7841
+ 17.3" screen, 3GB GPU, 2 mDPs.
- i5 CPU, 128GB SSD, Price.
Note: Brand stigma alert: In my country Medion is mainly sold in thrift/discount Aldi supermarkets, so £970 feels quite steep. But it is German, so...

2. MSI GP62 Leopard
+ 17.3" screen, 16GB RAM, HDMI supports 4K @ 30Hz, Price.
- No SSD, 5400rpm HDD.
Note: Offering only a slow, mechanical HDD is a bit cheap, but at £829 there should be money left to add your own SSD. Getting 4K support via the HDMI port is a definite plus.

3. Dell Inspiron 15-7000
+ 4GB GPU, Price.
- No DP, no SSD, 5400rpm HDD.
Note: Best GPU power, but no DP seems a bit old-fashioned by now. The HDD is the slow variant. But at £850 it's a better proposition than the Asus.

4. Asus ROG GL552VW
+ 256GB SSD, 7200rpm HDD.
- 8GB RAM, No DP, Price.
Note: At £1,000 I'd expect at least 16GBs of RAM. No compelling reason to buy it.

5. HP Pavilion 15-bc002na
+ 7200rpm HDD.
- No DP, 8GB RAM.
Note: The most shaved-down laptop - it's almost as if HP couldn't be bothered to finish the job.

In my book, it's a toss-up between the Medion (the capable dark horse) and the MSI (cheap but needs an SSD).

Cheers,
GreyCatz.
