A program that allows you to transfer shows from Peplay to computer.
It's like DVArchive, but more limited.

I used QVision for awhile, when I couldn't get DVA to work (DVA
requires your firewall to pass class D addresses, and they don't tell
you that).

Can you explain this in more detail?

If there is no firewall between the Replay and DVA, then it should work,
right?

Class D addresses (224.0.0.0/4 or 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255, see
http://compnetworking.about.com/library/weekly/aa042400b.htm if you
want) are used for LAN broadcasts, and not the web. Your router is
probably ignoring them. Specifically, DVA needs to use address
239.255.255.250 which is used for UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play) which
the Replays use to discover each other on the network.

Again, these are NOT internet addresses.

>If there is no firewall between the Replay and DVA, then it should work,

It should, but it's really important to have a firewall on a computer
with any internet connection. Note the router will do a very good job
of stopping incoming connections (hackers, etc..) but do almost
nothing for outgoing connections (spyware, etc...). You need firewall
software for that.

Another useful thing is "static DHCP". There have been many recent
messages concerning that. I've posted some.

Sometimes you have to guess the right search string.

DVArchive (http://www.dvarchive.org/) still does more. Note that that
URL ends in ORG not COM.

I did edit your quote a little, since I got tired of looking at that
particular misspelling/mistyping of my name.

In some routers, like Netgear's, there is simply a box to check to
eneable UPnP. DVArchive works perfectly with that.

1. I was talking about the firewall on the computer, which has
nothing to do with the router. IT needs to pass the UPnP address.

2. The router has nothing to do with LAN (local) connections, so
setting this wouldn't make any difference. That setting only allows
the ROUTER to use UPnP. This has nothing to do with DVArchive.
