I have a 5 months old Asus laptop but lately the usb ports got shot and they are not working anymore. The laptop does not have an OS anymore, and Ive tried countless dvd with windows. How could I get it back working with an OS on? I dont really want to go to a service.....and the warranty does not work in my current country.

Solution
OK, what happened to the OS that was on it? Try running a hard drive diagnostic with this test:

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

Download the DOS version and burn that to a DVD (use disk burning software with option "Burn disk image"). That sort of issue could be caused by a bad drive. it's also possible the internal DVD-ROM is causing an issue.

Can you provide a few more details? What model of ASUS laptop, and what happens when you try to boot the DVD? Where did the DVD come from? Is there physical damage to any USB ports, and have you tried all available ports?

The laptop is an Asus f550ze-xx072t ,when I boot from a dvd containing any windows it hangs on Expanding Windows Files at 0% , and all the ports are busted, however if I plug a mouse , it works...unless I turn on the mouse's lights then it disconnects.
