R9 280 to gtx 980 upgrade worth it

I've had my r9 280 for about a year now, since i first built my pc, and i'm starting to not be able to turn up the settings. Do you guys think I should upgrade so I can max out some of the new AAA titles? I know it's kind of overkill for 1080p, but I want it to last 3-4 years. I've thought about getting a 970 and getting a second one for sli down the road, but I would rather have one amazing card than two great ones.

It would be a pretty good upgrade literally doubling gaming performance. I would recommend gtx 970 as its a better buy being $180 cheaper but only performing 15% slower.

ok thanks mate wasnt positive about whether it would increase performance or not. I think i'll go with the 980. I know its $100 for 15%, but I want the best out of my money, and i'll overclock the 980 to pwn the 970s haha
