So basically, somehow Ive managed to get infected by a ransomware on my macbook air. The computer is now locked and when booting, it asks for a pin code to unlock the computer. It also says that I should contant a weird e-mail address for further help.

What should I do?

Thankful for answers.

Now I wonder WHY I tossed my answer in the garbage. Glad to hear you got that fixed. There may be some forums out there that would love to hear about your fix.
Can you take a picture of it? It might not actually be ransomware, but if it is the only way to get past it is pay it or clear your hard drive or ssd.

It appears you are sort of screwed:

(no recommendations on the reliability of those 2 sites, just what I came across looking for that email address)

Looks to be some ransomware after all. Here's a guide explaining how to remove it:

https://howtoremove.guide/applecodecaramail-com/

I wouldn't recommend doing step 3 or 4 though.

Well, those pages doesnt really seem that reliable. But since I cant access the computer at all, the guide seems really useless. My only option seems that I should format the hard drive on the computer. My question is then, how? Since I cant access the computer at all.

Yeah, they didn't seem that reliable to me either. Not sure if you can wipe the hard drive since it's a macbook air, and you probably can't take it out.

Take it to the Apple Store.

Why wouldn't it?
Wipe and reinstall. I have no idea how to do that on a Mac, but presumably they would.

I managed to fix the problem. It seemed the MacBook somehow was locked by Find My Mac. I restored the password and got the pin code. It seems her iCloud account was hacked and the scammers tried to scam by marking the macbook as lost?! WTF...
