.rar File opening incorrectly

I'm attempting to open a .rar file, but somehow it accidentally is opening in Notepad+, and I'm unable to get the contents. How do I make it back to default?

If you use windows 10, Right click the file, then click properties.

It hasn't changed over multiple windows versions; if you right click, open with, and choose another app, there is the option to always open with the selected app. You can also go to default programs and change the file type associated default.

The thing is I don't know what app should open it; it usually is a zipped folder, but I'm unaware where to look for the default program to open it.

You must have installed something to open it since windows can't. If the icon showed as a zipped folder before then it isn't the common winrar, 7zip or winzip. The default unzipper icon maybe? But it can't do rars.
