RCA audio output from LED projector not working

I've bought a new LED projector. I have plugged in the HDMI cable input from my AppleTV and DVD Player. Now I would like to use Audio RCA cable from projector to stereo. The sound continues to come out of the projector and not the stereo. What am I doing wrong?

Did you read the manual to see if you need to set something in the options of the projector to enable audio out? Or if it will work with HDMI inputs they way you want it to?
