Hi everyone, I am considering a new Replay unit and noticed the refurbs.
on the Replay site.I currently have a Showstopper 2500 and really like
it ,except--no local phone# for updates, but no monthly bill.I live in
Newark,Ohio 740 area code.If I do upgrade will a different set of phone
#'s become available to me?Which unit is the best deal for the money.I
currently have digital cable and on my HBO recordings the recording
starts on the program guide for a couple of minutes before switching to
another channel. This is quite annoying because I often miss the first
part of the show.I never had this problem before digital cable and am
curious if anyone else has it? Will a new unit eliminate
this?Thanks,George

You won't get a new set of phone numbers for the updates but you can
eliminate the phone updates altogether if you have a broadband internet
connection - either DSL or cable modem. The 4xxx and 5xxx all have an
ethernet connection. You can even use a wireless bridge if needed.
As for the refurbs themselves, the only disadvantage is possibly a
shorter warranty. However, I've bought refurbs and never had a problem.
I don't know why your channel is changing slowly with your Showstopper
but I can tell you that I've never had that problem with my 5000 series
units.
