Remote stopped working but wouldn't work manually either

if your phone has IR you can get a universal remote app and try that.
universal remote controls are sold at walgreens and even some dollar stores

If the TV won't work with the manual buttons on it there is probably nothing wrong with the remote. Problem would be the TV itself.
