Remotely turning on computer through wifi instead of lan?

I've see programs where you can turn on a computer through LAN. Is ther a way to use wifi instead? I have my desktop with a wifi usb stick. I don't want to have to run a long network cable to the computer since it is far from the router. Is this possible since wifi is controlled by windows? In my bios it has the option to change the boot order to the wifi usb, I don't know if that would help.

I5 2500k, Windows 7 ultimate

What if you had this setup:
Wireless usb ---- female/female usb adaptor---- usb to Lan converter---- lan cable to mobo lan port.

Would that allow the wireless usb to work with the computer turned off, and than allow LAN to trun on the computer?

I believe WOL (Wake On Lan) works even across the Internet as long as the magic packet gets port forwarded to the correct computer once it reaches your home network.
