Rendering 3D Slows Down PS3 Game Performance

This may be true but there are other issues at play such as the HDMI standards themselves which have a problem producing the data bandwidth requirements to do 3d 1080p @ 60fps with high color bit depth.

looks like its time for the PS4 and the XBOX"720" to come out if they want to implement 3D with any decent results.

I definitely saw this coming ever since they announced their intentions of adding 3D support

I can't see any current-gen consoles with acceptable framerates and resolutions with their current hardware.

Hopefully the next-gen hardware will have Nvidia and ATi's own high-end cards to back up rendering horsepower, except that's mighty expensive.

LMFAO. Vote me down if you want, but I seriously thought from the title of the article it meant rendering 3D, as in games, not stereoscopic or anything. It's been a long day...

Dude. Right there with you. I was thinking "what did Tom smoke today?"

But so much of the data is exactly the same from frame to frame, there is just a slight shift of the image with a little extra info.

If this was coded well I would expect only a 5% performance decrease frame for frame.

It just seems software guys have lost their artistic passion for coding.

My thought is the performance difference due to 3D standards or actual power issues? Mainly because 720p might just be the perfect thing for 3d (could help with the crossover images or something), also I would think that if a game was reduced to 720p then games that come with 720 would not need to be reduced since it would be its "limit".

As a ps3 owner I really dont care though, I dont have a 3D tv or glasses and dont plan on getting one for a couple years (if that)....and I might still never use the 3D function (some reviews just say that the picture is better on them for 2D lol).

Just my thoughts/questions ^_^

+1 Bogcotton! Seriously, the solution they've chosen is to render a separate image for each eye, cutting the framerate in half. Why don't they just increase the width of the standard resolution and each eye gets the same image either shifted left, or shifted right? It can't be that easy can it? People higher than my paygrade better be able to think of that!

OK...so I get the thumbs down for "No, 3D is not the new thing this year...it's been around quite some time. I think you meant 3D Video." and then the guys who pretty much say the same thing get thumbs up... Not that it matters but what the hell?!

because just simply shifted something to the left/right wont work, for all intent and purposes you need to create a second camera view, otherwise you dont need a bloody 3D camera for all those fancy 3D films, they just have to shift the image to the left or right.... heck retro-fitting old movies would be an easy task of just shifting the image to the right and left....

unfortunately as you pointed out... i guess thats why your payscale is where it is.... dont mean to flame but you did bring it up.....

I f it doesn't matter then why are you complaining?!?!?!?!
