Rendering Performance Help

So I do some rendering in a program called "Blender" and I noticed on my new PC that it is slower than the PC I use at school which is a very old PC with an intel core duo and like 4 gigs of ram. My PC is relatively new (under a month) with an i5 4690k, GTX 970, and 16 gigs of RAM. When I run animations, my PC gets a lower framerate than the school's PC, which makes absolutely no sense. I was wondering if I could any way fix this issue. Thanks

Yea, I changed the rendering mode to render on my 970 but it doesn't make a difference.

Are you sure the render settings are all the same? For example you do not have ray tracing enabled? All I can say is that better hardware with same settings will have better frame rate. Point you to the blender wiki for further information
