A customer brought in a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6905 with an obviously cracked LCD screen which is generally speaking a pretty standard repair. The computer was in perfect working order other than the physical damage to the lcd screen. It lit up, I could see some of the windows logo, etc. I took the machine apart, got the part number and manufacturer of the original lcd and placed the order for the replacement. Upon it's arrival I double checked the part # as I always do and proceeded to install the lcd. Once I was finished i checked my connections, plugged everything back in, hit the power and had no backlight. The machine boots up and I can see text on the screen if i hold a light up to it, but thats it. If I remove the new screen and put the old one back in it lights up just fine. That tells me the inverter is good. Do the lcd's/inverters need to be swapped in pairs? Ive done several lcd replacements and have only run across this issue with the Toshiba.

They don't generally have to be swapped in pairs, so that's rather strange. Are you sure the inverter outputs voltage when it's connected to the new screen? Maybe the new screen's cabling is borked.

I've never had that issue.
