Fixing to retire my 2006 NEC 60" plasma. Don't want to go backwards on quality, but don't want to over buy either. We sit 15 to 18 feet away, watch mostly Uverse and Netflix. Also budget minded! In 2006 was a two income household, today living off a much smaller retirement. With Black Friday sales coming up, figure it's time to buy. Unsure how my old plasama HD measures up to what is on the market today. Thinking the 4k should be equal or better. 55" 4k are looking good, however while simple math says just 5" smaller. Is it going to be very noticeable? 65" appear to be running about $400 more. Need some guidance!

Solution
You will notice the difference in size especially at that distance so bigger will be better than smaller.
A low end 4k set will exhibit motion and upscaling artifacts that you aren't used to on your NEC. They will be much brighter but the black level might not be as good.
If you can go for an OLED TV that will give you the best picture quality. LG offers the widest price range. Sony makes only one high end model so far.
