I've never worked on a laptop before but I need to replace a Dell Inspiron 3541 non back-lit keyboard for someone with a new back-lit keyboard for easier typing in a darker room. I found a few on amazon such as

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0192XZLEA/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i20_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1J3XWR9TTM5EFMP7YPAP&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop

But It looks like the back-lit ones have an extra connector at the top/back. Is that going to be a problem if the laptop I have is currently non back-lit?

Here is a side by side comparison as an example. https://gyazo.com/5e10a3bec678f9e3fbd9d1ee69dd7fa4

Thanks in advance.

Do you know what I should do if it has a cable already connected that looks like it leads to the trackpad similar to this video?

If you pause it at 1:28 you can see the one I mean.

Can you give us the service tag number? I don't think it can be used for anything other than looking up exact specs on Dell's website so shouldn't be a security risk. You can PM to me if you don't want to post it. The service manual that I linked to and the other poster linked to shows a different layout under the keyboard than what is shown in the video. If yours looks like the video then we need to try to find it's service manual. I have seen this before, same model laptop but they have different internals maybe due to the options one has and not the other.
