A few days ago I noticed my channel listing covered only about 24 hours
or so. Messages indicated that the unit could not connect. The phone
line is fine as I hooked a phone to it and it works. I can also hear
the modem noise when the unit is attempting to connect (unsuccessfully).

I unplugged the unit for a day with no change.

Changing the dial up number results in:
‘Getting Channel Guide Info…’
‘Skipping Connection…’
‘Done’

A 2-4-3-Zone and selecting ‘Net Connect’ results in:
‘Initializing Modem…’
‘Dialing…’
‘There was a problem transferring information from your ReplayTV Service.’
‘ReplayTV will try again later.’
(Every now and then I get a ‘Connecting…’ but it still fails the same).

I tried all the modem baud rates also with no effect.

Is my modem broken? And if so can anyone please steer me in the
direction of a replacement modem? Maybe ReplayTV Service has a problem?
I live in the Balt/Wash area, does anyone else in my area have a similar
problem?

Thank very much for any help as I miss the heck out of my ReplayTV... :(

I would have that problem with the older (non-ethernet) Replays. It
would usually work to use a different phone number (check, you may
have several local numbers available).

Yes, sometimes just changing the local phone number works
It might be a temporary problem. If it continues I would suggest trying to
connect using a different local number if you have one in your area.

Besides the other suggestions, try unplugging the power for about a minute
(some claim it takes 20 minutes), then plug it back in and try a forced
connect after it boots up. I had a Showstopper with a modem that would get
"stupid" every few weeks and that fixed it.

Bye.

I am having the exact same problem with 2 showstoppers in Iowa.
I have not been able to get a good load for 2 days now. Exactly the same
scenario as yours.
There were reports that the servers were down yesterday ... may be related
to the dialup problems.
good luck

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I just got back from a week out
of town, and it's back to normal! It must have been the servers. Wheeew!
