hope they include the red/blue glasses option like nVidia does.
then people can go "wow 3D is cool! but not all the time... PASS!" before spending like $5000 on a new 3d tv and glasses for everyone...

Having to buy a 3d LCD or OLED tv is a HASSLE since i just bought a 42inch Samsung in September, but I would have thought the 3d Firmware alone could handle the 3d with the blu ray player and all we would need would be the glasses, but unfortunatly this is not the case..... shouldnt it be though? I mean my tv is already 12ohz so why cant the ps3 with the firmware be ENOUGH to play the 3d movie?

BTW, Avatar was crap, it didnt sell me on the 3d gig but ALICE IN WONDERLAND DID.........

whateve5r, i know i won't be able to afford the new 3d tv's but at least the bravia engine 3 ones are probably going to get their price cuts, probably go for one of those. Right now i am playing my ps3 on my 20 inch computer monitor in 720p. lol

Can someone explain what will be different about the new 3D TV's compared to a standard HDTV now? Will a 120 Hz LCD TV be able to play 3D and if not, why? If they can show it on a movie screen and all one needs is the glasses, I don't see how it is any different.

I'm not willing to pay over $3k for 3d, but I do applaud Sony for updating the PS3 to handle it. I doubt many other 3-year-old blu-ray players will be able to handle the new format

Then dont buy a $3k TV, buy one of many Walmart will be selling lot hot cakes this fall for 1500.00. And DirecTV is launching 3D channels this month I beleive...

I think 3D is awesome! 3D Avatar was incredible, 3D porn is going to be awesome! And I dont care if I have to wear 3D glasses in my house. Big deal! I wore them for 3 hours in Avatar and I didnt see anyone complaining. ;)

I have a hard time watching 3D movies at the cinema, I end up with a headache after a short while, no matter where I sit.

Hopefully in-home 3D will be a little less troublesome on the eyes, at least for me. I enjoy the concept of 3D, but when I go to see a movie now, if it's only in 3D I have to pass on it unless they're offering a 2D showing as well.

Damn my terrible eyes!

Any 120 Hz tv should be capable of displaying 3d. They just aren't very common.

So many of you people would bitch if it was raining gold and snowing diamonds.

It is a new technology, give it time.

It is clear many of you don't even understand the technology or the need for the glasses. To you I say get a clue before spouting off and showing your shear ignorance on the subject.

Well the 3D may not be ready at this time. But early adaptors can go to 3D now and we normal customers 4-8 years from now.
As any "new" technology it will be too expensive to average customer, but in 4-5 years it can be reasonable, like Blue-Ray at this moment. Not cheap, but affordable. 5 years more and it can be mainstream.
A lot depends on the 3d guality and how easy it will be to use it (watch TV in this case.) 3D glasses are not actually too comfortable at this moment, but tecnology has a tendency of becoming better. Maybe real 3D tv-sets (those that does not reguire glasses) are the thing that really allows 3D-boom to homes.

To you, I say look to the past in the 1950-1960's era and you'll find your statement of "It is a new technology, give it time." does not hold water.

We ask for Cross game chat and we get Motion Control and 3D upgrades.

HELLOOOOOOOOOO IS THIS THING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody really cares about 3D and motion control. Both have been tried and failed miserably. I understand why its coming back but a foundation needs to be in place first and we still cant get CONSISTENT voice chat yet!!!! ITS 2010 for god sakes!!!!

I'd assume 3d glasses will become more comfortable... no reason why they can't be as comfortable as a pair of sunglasses that people wear for hours on end.

My understanding was that you needed an extra layer in a 3d capable TV to polarize the image, so that the glasses would work with them. It's not refresh rate, it's the lack of the polarization filter that is holding back new tv's I think... I've used a 3D setup a couple years ago that used 2 matching projectors projecting through their own seperate polarized filters projected onto the same screen in order to generate the 3d image when viewed through the 3dglasses.

Well, everything that I've been hearing from Tom's and MaximumPC.com makes it seem like any 120 Hz tv can work, and it kind of seems like any tv can work, they just might not look as nice/give you headaches. However, 3d capable tvs probably come with an infrared transmitter for the glasses, so a regular tv would require the purchase of something like Nvidia's 3d kit. And then of course you would also need some 3d media to play.

Not true, you will need a TV with a 120hz input. Most of the 120hz TV's on the market have a 120hz screen, but only 60hz input. I have read that you will need HDMI 1.4 (higher bandwidth) in order to get a 120hz signal from the player to the TV. I wonder how Sony will be doing this with the PS3? I don't think it has HDMI 1.4.

hey guys... Look at the Mistibushi DLP TV's. i just bought a 65 inch TV for $900 online and it is 3D ready. $100 for an adapter that comes with glasses and for 1K you have a 65 inch HD 1080P TV that can be used for 3D. The good news is you don't need a new blu ray player if you have the PS3!
