Communism isn't bad? Tell that to the millions who were behind the Iron Curtain, tell that to the people who tried to escape but were machine gunned down. Tell that to the Cubans who risk their lives in cardboard rafts just to try and escape communism. Yes, it's easy for you to say, you've never experienced communism/socialism, I come from a Communist country and it is very bad and very vile.

Communism and socialism have killed more people than all the wars the world ever had combined. Hundreds of millions died of starvation thanks to socialist policies while socialist governments were still exporting food for "hard" currency as in China in the 1950's. The same occurred in the Soviet Union, only they took food from the Eastern Bloc to export and feed Russians while Poles and Romanians starved. Millions of others were sent to labor camps to die working as in the gulags of Siberia. And Communism isn't bad? How dare you? I suppose the Concentration camps weren't bad for the Jews either right? After all, they had a place to stay before they were murdered right?

"Real" Communism can never be tried because it's impossible to attain in reality. It's like trying to jump to the moon off of a cliff. Everyone who tries will fall off of the cliff and die so one on will ever get to the moon. Yet only an idiot would say that those people didn't try hard enough and more people should try to jump to the moon off of a cliff.

So you're saying because some totalitarian assholes misused an idea, that that means it's bad? Socialism is a tool like any other, it isn't inherently good or bad, it's how it's used.

The problem with Socialism is that no society out there is suited to it. If you could get a couple hundred infants, and raise them with a different mind set.

But I'm not interested in Communism anyway, it would be extremely difficult to obtain, and I'm not going to give up my possessions.

To say that communism works but has never been done properly is utter non-sense. This is the typical propaganda of Marxists everywhere. Cuba, North Korea, USSR, China, Laos, Vietnam, Angola, Congo, etc. When they fail, there is always an excuse like "they didn't do it right" or "that wasn't really communism it was another ism", blah, blah, blah. Truth is: communism doesn't work because it's a Utopian pipe dream. It's an idealistic philosophy that "seems to be oh so egalitarian" on paper but it the real world it's a fantasy. Socialism is simply the path from capitalism to communism. Just like a pure Democracy would not work either because it then becomes mob rule. It's like 3 wolves and a sheep vote on what's for dinner.

Exactly Tindytim, if humans just acted inhuman, then Communism could work. Communism depends on humans not acting like humans. If only we all could work hard without any benefit, if only we would do crappy work to benefit others all the time, if only we would deprave ourselves of any gratification for extended periods and sacrifice constantly for others without more reward.

T-Bone has it right, communism asks us to shed our humanity which is impossible. This is also a failure of the socialist states, if I am going to be helped regardless of what I do, then why should I do anything to help myself at all? Why don't I just sit at home, smoke weed, and play World of Warcraft all day long then? That would be very pleasurable, certainly better than going to work. Then I'd demand people deliver food to me so that I won't have to wait in line or go make a trip for it. But then who produces and who does the work that provides for me? That's the great flaw in socialism/communism, there is no reason for anyone to produce and so no one does. What you get is extreme poverty. Only the government holding a gun to the head of their workers forces them to make enough to keep everyone from starving. But a better system rewards people for working and being more productive. That's how capitalism works. The more productive and the more you make what others want, the more you get to spend to satisfy your own wants. Not a perfect system, but much better than one where you make the same regardless of what you do which causes everyone to be lazy and unproductive.

Communism can never work as long as we're human.

It's nice how the article makes the Republicans look bad... No mention of the 17+ Tera-watts of power it would take to keep analog running until June 12th or the business impact. Blocking this delay is a good thing, why make it sound bad?
