my old laptop has a busted screen, can i connect it to my new laptop in order to get the pictures off of it?

The easiest way:
Can you connect an external monitor to it? Then you could copy the files to an external hard drive.

not so easy way:
remove the hard drive of the broken laptop and install it into an external USB case or adapter. Connect it to the other laptop, to backup your data.
